Material processing and handling solutions specialist, Akona Process Solutions, is now building Cablevey conveying systems in the UK, delivering faster lead times, lower costs and a smarter solution for European manufacturers.

Previously produced exclusively in the US, the decision to co-locate production to the UK has been driven by customer demand and commercial strategy. With an increasing requirement for shorter lead times, reduced shipping costs and localised services, the shift enables Akona to respond more swiftly and efficiently without compromising Cablevey’s proven track record of quality. Production is already underway, with three UK-built projects in progress. The first system is due to be commissioned in Ireland in the next 3-4 months.

“Customers have been asking for a locally manufactured Cablevey solution for some time,” said Akona’s Ben Ayrton, Managing Director Europe. “They want faster, more cost-effective delivery, with the confidence that comes from dealing with a regional partner who understands the regulatory and logistical landscape. We’re now in a position to meet that demand head-on.”

The move also delivers significant commercial advantages for Akona. It opens the door to a broader range of projects and strengthens the company’s competitiveness against European alternatives. With UK manufacture now established, Akona can address local markets directly and expand its presence across Europe. Environmental impact has also played a key role in the decision. By eliminating the need for transatlantic shipping from Cablevey’s US base in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Akona can substantially cut carbon emissions. Transporting 5,000 kg of equipment from the US to the UK can produce around 779 kg of CO2. By manufacturing locally, Akona significantly reduces this impact.

The shift is also creating opportunities internally as it expands the skillset of the production and drawing office teams, increases aftermarket potential, increases profitability and reduces overall lead times.

“This is more than just a location change, it’s a step forward that brings us closer to our customers, improves our flexibility and supports more sustainable operations,” added Ayrton. “We’re excited to see the first UK-manufactured Cablevey systems commissioned.”

Created from the merger of Advanced Material Processing (AMP) and Automated Handling Solutions (AHS), Akona unifies the capabilities of Cablevey, Kason, Marion and Spiroflow, bringing over 200 years of experience in delivering high-performance processing and handling solutions for high-value materials across food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and chemicals industries. With engineering, sales and service centres in the UK, Germany and the USA, Akona is uniquely positioned to meet the growing need for scalable, efficient and hygienic solutions.
