The first batch of this gin was piloted as a limited edition in 2021. The gin is a bold, smooth, modern classic, with a contemporary twist, rooted in English tradition with a nod to the chef’s Italian heritage. This traditionally made gin is created using copper pot stills and crafted in small batches, delivering an artisanal approach. It embodies respect for quality and respect for craft. Marco Pierre White joined with Chris Sadler, the Master Distiller of Mr White's Gin, to create a gin so smooth it can be poured neat or used in classic cocktails.
Marco Pierre White says: “I am so pleased that Mr White's Gin is launching nationally in a top supermarket group. Creating a gin is like creating a sauce: the fine balance of ingredients – in this case botanicals – must be supremely good. Working with our Master Distiller, Chris Sadler, we’ve produced a London Dry Gin that is smooth, complex, and elegant.
“This gin reflects my approach to cooking –simple yet powerful, with layers of complexity. It’s not about being flashy, it's about being true to the natural ingredients. The juniper is bold and assertive but balanced with an unexpected depth of botanicals. This is a gin with a purpose.”
This exceptional gin will be available in 100 top Sainsbury’s branches across the UK from 28 April 2025 priced at £32.99 RRP for a 70cl bottle. It will also be sold through www.Sainsburys.co.uk, recently named ‘Supermarket of the Year’ [for drinks].
Jack Banks, Senior Spirits Buyer for Sainsbury’s said: “We are delighted to be the first national supermarket group to list Mr White's Gin. It is an exceptional, super-premium liquid and one that I think our discerning customers will embrace. It’s wonderful to be working with such an iconic chef and TV personality as Marco Pierre White. The bottle will have great stand-out on shelf and we are excited to go live with this brand later in April.”
Marco Pierre White is a world-renowned chef, restaurateur and television personality who is often thought of as having changed the way Brits think about their food. He was the first chef in Britain and the youngest in the world to garner 3 Michelin stars. His interest in gin began early in his career. Marco Pierre White said: “I distinctly remember the captivating smell of the juniper berries being distilled at a distillery on Wandsworth Bridge, as I made my way to and from my restaurant, Harvey’s, on Wandsworth common, London. The aroma takes me back to memorable moments from my days spent back in the capital all those years ago.”
The gin will also be served in Marco Pierre White’s hotel - The Rudloe, near Bath.
Mr White's Gin is packaged in, of course, an elegant and distinguished white glass bottle with red highlights, signed by Marco Pierre White, and featuring a wood and natural cork closure which is wax dipped.
The botanicals in Mr White's Gin are Juniper from Italy, Coriander, Cardamom, Italian Orris Root, French Lavender, Fresh Lemon Peel from Greece, Fresh Orange Peel from Spain, Lemon Verbena, and Liquorice sourced in France. Asked why the recipe includes French rather than English Lavender, Marco Pierre White explains: “French Lavender has a different profile. It’s grown in the South of France, in a warm climate, which lends a more rounded profile to the gin.”
Tasting notes:
Mr White's Gin offers a sophisticated and balanced flavour profile that delights the palate
On the nose: a fresh and invigorating bouquet where classic juniper takes centre stage, complemented by bright citrus freshness which add a lively zest, while subtle floral hints weave a touch of elegance and intrigue to create an inviting and well-balanced aroma.
On the palate:
Citrus Notes: Lemon and orange peel deliver bright, zesty flavours adding a refreshing quality.
Spices and Herbs: Warm, aromatic spices and herbaceous notes that enhance the complexity and depth of the spirit.
Floral Undertones: Delicate floral hints from French Lavender, that add an extra layer of sophistication.
Sweet and Earthy Elements: Subtle sweet and earthy undertones that round out the profile.
Mouthfeel: A smooth and silky texture, with a medium to full body that makes it both refreshing and satisfying. Its well-rounded mouthfeel ensures that the flavours are evenly distributed and linger pleasantly after each sip.
Finish: The finish is clean and crisp, with the dominant juniper and citrus notes gradually giving way to the more subtle spicy, herbal, and sweet undertones. This leaves a refreshing and balanced aftertaste.
Mr White's Gin is versatile. The perfect G&T serve is garnished with a sprig of lavender. Suggested cocktails, combining Marco Pierre White’s English and Italian heritage, are a Gin and It; Italian 75; or a White Negroni.
